All Missourians deserve the right to choose where they want to save and borrow – regardless of where they live. Our mission is to inform Missourians about important issues that could affect your financial choices, and how something called “Field of Membership” relating to credit unions could impact your financial freedom.
Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit organizations that exist to serve the financial needs of their members rather than generating profits for shareholders. This fundamental purpose shapes their operations and approach to financial services.
Credit unions are financial institutions that are similar to banks in many ways but have some distinct characteristics and purposes. The primary purpose of credit unions is to provide financial services to their members.
We firmly believe that every Missourian should have the right to choose their financial institution, just like they choose where to shop or live. With the help of credit unions, this is possible for you.
Credit unions are oftentimes limited by what’s called their “Field of Membership.” This sets a geographic limit for who can become a member of a specific credit union. One of our goals is to expand Missouri’s field of membership laws so those in underserved areas have access to better banking.
The field of membership issue is likely going to be on lawmakers’ minds in 2024. By educating and engaging Missourians, we’ll be able to have a positive impact when it comes time to discuss the issue.
Join us to stay up-to-date on how you can advocate for financial freedom for all Missourians.
